Gordon Street

My great great grandfather Patrick Mcloughlin lived in 11 court , number 2 house in Newsham street. The family moved to presumably a better dwelling namely 19 Gordon street. At some point he moved along Gordon street to number 36, where he lost a daughter Alice Ann at the age of 4 in 1882, followed by his first wife later the same year. My great great grandfather remarried a year later while living in Conway street literally around the corner from Gordon street, and had two further children with his second wife, herself not long widowed. They must have been incredibly hard times which many people today would find hard to comprehend. Patrick McLoughlins son my great grandfather John McLoughlin and his wife lived in Victoria square until his death in 1915 in the Lusitania sinking, leaving a wife and two young children. Both my parents were born in Victoria square, and my wife's parents came from Buckingham street ( Richards) and Arkwright street ( Rogers), hence my interest in this area.
  3. Tommy mcnab says:
my family and I lived there till about 1963 when we moved to Halewood. I was 6 when we moved, the word factory at the top of Gordon Street was where I cut my wrist on the glass which they put on top of to stop climbing on, but it was to late for me. My family lived in no.99 my memories of the time where of riding down the streets on sterries and playing on the tossy vars in Havelock Street where my Grandad lived. My mum who is in her 88th year now suffering with dementia still recalls the good old days of the area where neighbours would do anything for you.

  12. Ken Rogers says:
A sad site of a house tinned and bricked up in Gordon Street as the clearances were unfolding. This was once a thriving and well known street were thousands of families would have lived down the years.
  13. Ken Rogers says:
Gordon Street was another of those packed terraced streets between Netherfield Road North and Great Homer Street. Its top end faced John Bagot Hospital. At the Greaty end it faced Newsham Street which, in turn, led to Scotland Road. Please upload a picture of Gordon Street if you have one, or leave a comment about your old street.
