Breckfield Road North

  1. Malcolm JONES says:
Hi My Name Malcolm Jones. i was born in Rishton St in1963 at 113 the house was green. I am looking for pictures of Rishton St but cannot find any. Can anybody remember a Vauxhall Cresta going up in smoke.
  2. Bill Dewhurst says:
I can remember, as a kid, calling into Matchmans Mecca (Breckfield Road North shops at Eyes Street in 1969) after my dad had promised to take me fishing when he came back from his long distance lorry run. I would have been about 8 I think.... and although I had never been fishing, had an idea that I needed maggots. I bought a pint of maggots from there.... which they supplied in a paper bag. I had nothing else to store them in, so when I got home my mum refused to let me in with them. I put them in the ash bin in the wall of the entry..... came down the following day to find out it had rained in the night, and the maggots had escaped from the wet paper bag..... and were crawling all over the yard. Mum was not happy....... she couldn't reach the outside toilet without walking over them!

St Domingo's Methodist Connexion church on Breckfield Road North between St Domingo Grove and St Domingo Vale. The fledgling football team of this church, playing in Stanley Park in 1878, changed their name to a certain Everton Football Club in 1879 during a meeting at the former Queen's Head Hotel on Everton's Village Street which therefore became the birthplace of big time football on Merseyside.

Breckfield Rd North and shops at no's 61 to 81. The pet shop on the corner of Rutland Street with the small Austin 7 car in front of it used to sell raw meat for pets. It used to be stained green to put off humans eating it. When I lived in Everton we had a labrador dog which preferred this tainted meat to anything in a can. He was solid muscle and a beautiful dog. RIP Prince.

Breckfield Rd North at Eyes Street. How coincidental is that?
  19. Ken Rogers says:

A busy Breckfield Road North with Thirlmere Road on the left. In the middle of that block was a small iron foundary where one of my friends father worked. I remember one day, my friend and myself taking his 'carry out' to him which he'd forgotten. The heat inside that foundary was intense. I was glad to leave.
