Verona Street

Vivid memories of larking around on what was the waste ground (bombdie) that was on the right in the picture before the new block of homes was built on it. Aged about five in the 50s, I was happily playing in a muddy puddle on it as my older cousin Valerie was in Mitchell's cake shop - just in view on the left (No 200), when three passing older schoolgirls decided I was fair game and, being too many for me to take on, managed to push me face down into the deepest part of the puddle; which at my age might well have been the Mersey! Fortunately, they hadn't banked on our Valerie who gave all three a good hiding before they all legged it! Happy days!
