    Used to go to that hairdresser even when it was round the corner in a small shop, the name of the proprietor was Joseph Grybz I thought he was Polish. I worked in 42 46 Breckfield road north.

    We used to live at 23 Breckfield Road North (facing the Hole in the Wall pub), an end double-fronted terraced house near the public toilets. I remember my grandmother taking me to the sweet shop shown here. A lot of great memories for me. Well done for putting this site up. There were some really great houses along Breckfield Road South.

    I remember Profits sweet shop next to the barbers on one side and Howards greengrocers on the other. I also recall Dots sweet shop which was on the corner of Gilfillan St. She sold penny Vantas drinks from a round glass container on the counter.

    I remember Sylvia's shop well she had a drapers shop. She would always open the door when you knocked even if she was closed. Sylvia had polished nails to die for too!

    Breckfield Road South in 1968. Peter Thomas Rooney recalls: 'The photo above shows the end of the road where it met Breck Road. The barbers shown behind the Midland Bank was run by an Italian who had been a POW. His business was originally around the corner on Breck Road but absorbed into the pub, The Royal, when it was expanded c.1962'.
