China Street

In 1871 my great great grandfather, George Ison Robinson, lived at 8 China Street described as the Cellar. He and his wife, Julia, had 6 children at that point. He was employed as a railway porter.

I just found out from Ancestry.com that my great-grandmother lived as a small child with her family at 18 China Street (according to the !881 census)...shame that the buildings are all gone, otherwise I'd pay a visit on my next trip to the UK this coming September.

Hello all, I’ve just been on ancestry and I can see my 4th great grandfather lived on China street, number 8 his name was Antony Penton/Pentini, it would have been around 1919 he died so long before many of your relatives, but it’s nice seeing pictures where he lived :)

My relatives lived at number 11 China Street - the Holloways.

I am on Ancestry and a relative seems to have lived on China Street for many years even up until the 1939 register. I'm interested in this part of Liverpool.

I lived on China Street until we had to move, approx. 1962, when they demolished the homes, I have so many memories from my short life there (6 years). The park we played in behind the houses, the pub up the street and no-ones doors were ever locked! I remember helping scrub those steps with sandstone, and going to Scottie Road! Thanks for the memories. My Nan is on the front cover by the way!

My Grandma and my pop their name was Forshaw had stables at number 1 to 3 China Street

I was born in China Street if I remember right. We lived in number 84 next door to the Sally Army. My mothers name was Francis. My old fella was big Tim who used to take bets on Netherfield Road. We moved to the bottom of the street to live upstairs above Armstrongs pub, then Kermode Street before moving to Kirkby. Would love to see any old pics from that area.

Sometimes the best pictures don't have to be of the best quality. This one has clearly been passed around at family gatherings. Lianne McGinnes tells us it is her great Auntie Margaret Westall with the family dog Rex. Lianne's grandmother is Eileen Styles nee Westall and her great great grandmother was Eliza McGrath who all lived in China Street.

I love personal pictures like these. These kids, on the steps of a house in China Street, clearly feel all is well with the world in their close knit environment.
