Margaret Street and baths

A fascinating picture of Margaret Street baths with the boys crowding in the hot corner shower area Remember, very few of us at a bath and hot running water in our old terraced houses. A hot shower was a real treat. Clothes were left in the poolside lockers.

This is how you advertise! A wonderful image of a tobacconist on Margaret Street. The posters include a promotion for the Lytton cinema on Lytton Street off Everton Road, while the window is a work of art. This image was uploaded to Heyworth St & SA Facebook by Jimmy Johnson.

A grainy image, but still fascinating to see the Margaret Street baths and the water tower in the background.

Where thousands of kids once learned to swim and spend joyful days . . . the sad end of Margaret Street Baths.

Margaret street had a big influence on my life. Just living down the road ( Newlands St } I attended Margaret st school between 51- 55 and the Baths were across the road. Us kids spent many hours in there winter and summer doing what kids do and always remember the woollen swimming costumes which you lost when getting out of the water, because they were waterlogged.
