Mission Place

A good close up of the former Police Mission on Mission Place.

c1910, members of the Mission Hall in Mission Place, off Heyworth Street pose for a photo in the playground of St George’s School. The group are fundraising for their 'Prison Gate and Police Courts' Mission, to turn men and women away from drink and petty crime. Ironically, on the drinks front, that's the famous (and still open) Merebank Pub over the playground wall on the other side of Heyworth Street!

Mission Place with the greatest pie shop ever behind the large billboard. The 'oller' in front, on Heyworth Street, like so many others was because of the 1941 May Blitz.
