Nun Street

Nun St at Friar Street This was the debris site of Two houses hit during one of the bombing raids that did for Hamilton Road/Poplar St, from Landseer Rd down to St Saviours schoolyard. Until John Hamilton Technical College was built it remained a vast debris site, that had been cleared to cinders and where we used to play football or go dirt track racing on our bikes.. The Nun St debris was the site of the local bonfire on 5Nov. The kids used to scour the area and old bomb damaged properties for wood, and with the help of parents the “Bommy ” was set up. I remember one very windy night the fire brigade was called because it looked like the adjacent houses would go up!
