Orient Street

A pre-war photo of Orient Street which had not changed even in the sixties. This is the top end junction with Heyworth Street. The shop on the right hand side was a chandlers known as Trails or Mr Trails. As with most chandlers as soon as you entered the distinguishable smell of paraffin hit your senses.

Orient Street 'post war new houses' no's 31 to 35. The older terraced houses had been bombed during the May Blitz of 1941 and the 'oller' had these properties built on it.
