Rose Vale

My great great grandfather Isaac Horton sitting on the porch of his house with his dog. He lived at 2 Elizabeth Terrace, Rose Vale.
-
My grandmother Jane Gelling lived at 73 Rose Vale as the cook for the Allen family at the 1901 census. She married John McCormick in 1903, was widowed and then remarried and living in 68 Rose Vale with Thomas Waller in 1916. My mother Elizabeth Waller would have lived temporarily at 68 before being taken into care as a baby due to Jane's untimely death.

Hi Karen, you may know this already, but there was also an 'Eagle Vaults' on the corner of Penrhyn Street and Scotland Road (330-334 Scotland Road) - (not far from Rose Vale). Seems strange to have two pubs with the same name so close together. There is a piccy of this one in the book "The Pubs of Scottie Road'. I have found your Eagle Vaults on a map at 2 Rose Vale.

Karen Tollett writes: Hello All. My dad Alan James Tollet lived at 2 Rose Vale which was a public house. Its cellars were used as an air raid shelter during WW2. The pub was known as the Eagle Vaults but was unfortunately demolished and replaced by the Lamplighter pub. Unfortunately, no one in my family has a photograph of the Eagle Vaults on Rose Vale. My dad is now the last remaining of 5 siblings and my sister and I are desperate to find a photograph of the pub. We have scoured the Internet to no avail. If anyone can help at all, we would be incredibly grateful. Thank you.
