Salisbury Street

Salisbury Street
  1. Donna Bentham says:
I went to Salisbury Street School from 1972 to 1977. It moved from Salisbury Street in about 1973 to Everton Brow when it became Salisbury CP School. Mr Blatchford was the headteacher and Mr Kirkham was the assistant head who taught the top year groups. Miss Horsefall was the infant teacher teacher in 1973-5. She came from Southport and played the guitar. Miss Richards came to teach there in about 1976-7, she had also taught at SFX. Remember standing on Everton Brow in 1977 watching the Queen go past for her Silver Jubilee. Wonderful memories of my time here. Shame when it was closed and merged with Roscommon Street School in 1980 but the number of pupils had reduced dramatically at that time and wasn't viable to remain open.
  2. Les Ward says:
My mother Olive Nash attended Salisbury Street Senior Girls School until she left in December 1934 when she was 14. I have her final school report which looks like it was signed by L. Wilson but it's not clear. Salisbury Street School is well known for Miss Jessie Reid Crosbie who headmistress there for over 25 years. She was pioneer in children's school welfare and wrote a book called 'This Kingdom Called Home' . She was awarded the MBE in 1933 for her exceptional work in education. I believe her MBE is on display at the Museum of Liverpool. Crosbie Heights was named after her.

I went to salisbury st school in the early 60s. I wish i had photos or could remember teachers or headmaster name. I can recall headmaster used to walk up down main hall talking to all pupils sat cross leg on floor and his shoes used to squeak. Also wooden duster from blackboard would get thrown at pupils who sat talking instead of working. Mini bottles milk at playtime. Did anybody go to this school around early 60s?
