St George’s Hill

These old steps would have been well walked in their time at the top of St George's Hill.

Thanks to Ernie Hill for this 'Then & Now' view of St George's Hill, all very different.

A fine shot of the former St George's Heights, one of the highest that was built as part of the so-called 'Streets In The Sky' era. It styood, of course, alongside the former St George's Hill.

Compare this picture with the one at the top of this reel to see how dramatically things would change following the clearances. The grand houses of St George's Hill have gone as the 1960s demolition derby continues unabated. While some old ,properties are still at the top of the hill, you can see one of the new mega replacement tower blocks already in place on the left. A car sweeps down the hill to indicate there is still access from Northumberland Terrace at the top, but this would soon become a steep path amidst the greenery of the modern Everton Park.

Posing happily on the old St George's Hill which was clearly quite a climb.
